Retailers Jockey for Position
Consumers won't reap the same rewards as the last holiday season. Retailers will still offer discounts, but not at the same 50 to 70 percent off that shoppers experienced last year.
Discounts were at a much higher level in 2008 with retailers vying for any type of sales increase. This time around retailers plan to stay ahead of the curve by lowering inventories before hand and keeping holiday markdowns at a fair market baseline.
Overall, retailers are remaining optimistic and anticipate a positive consumer outlook and holiday shopping experience.
