Holiday Shopping Brighter than Expected
United State's 2009 holiday shopping season ends with modest gains. Compared to the 2008 holiday time, this year's retailers fared well, considering the current economy.
The exact numbers show an increase of 3.6% in retail sales, not including auto and gas sales, this November 1st through December 24th. Some critics point to the extra shopping day between Thanksgiving and Christmas this year.
Whatever the cause, retailers welcome the January 2010 figures for an even clearer retail picture.
